Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s renowned pediatrician Dr. Akshay Kumar Rout passed away at a private hospital here on Monday.
Dr. Rout, father of Mission Shakti Secretary-cum-Director Sujata Karthikeyan and the father-in-law of the Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian, was known for his selfless service to the poor and downtrodden.
Born on February 7, 1950 in Baluria village of Pattamundai block in Kendrapada district, Dr. Rout completed his medical degree at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. He was a renowned pediatrician at TATA in Jamshedpur.
After taking VRS, Dr. Rout set up Pushpa Clinic to provide free treatment to the poor.
A pail of gloom descended in Kendrapara district following the demise of Dr. Rout, who is survived by his wife Pushpa Rout and three daughters – Sujata, Sumita and Suchitra.
