Step-Motherly Attitude towards Odia Language: CBSE Ignores Problems of Odisha Students!

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: A terrible conspiracy is being hatched against the Odia language. It has been exposed in the Class 10 term 1 results declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education on March 12.

At a time when the Odisha Government has been working very hard to promote the regional language among the students, the step-motherly attitude of the Centre towards the Odia language has deeply hurt the sentiments of the students, parents and intellectuals in the State.

Following the declaration of the CBSE term 1 Class 10 results, the Odisha students have alleged that the CBSE Class 10 Odia question paper had several errors. Of the answers that were mentioned in the multiple choice questions, about 13 were incorrect, for which the students got confused while writing their papers. Some students alleged that they could not understand the questions. There were also misinterpretation about the great freedom fighters of Odisha like Buxi Jagabandhu and Jayi Rajguru. The students literally struggled to comprehend the questions. The students did not get right mark. It was also alleged the students got less mark due to wrong evaluation.

The students also claimed the CBSE gave students grace marks in the English paper for wrong questions, why not in Odia.

The CBSE Class 10 Odia students demanded ‘justice’ and tried to draw attention of the Board and Union Education Minister Dharemendra Pradhan, who is also from Odisha.

“The answer key of Odia questions paper had 12 answer wrong. Correction has not been done in the answer key. So it is showing a huge negligence to Odia language, which is a great loss to the students who have chosen Odia as the second language. Therefore I request you to kindly reconsider the matter and check it. Please support the students for getting justice,” a student highlighted on a Twitter post.

“Good afternoon Sir. CBSE Term-1 result has been declared today. In this regard I have a complaint against the answer key of a subject. The answer key of Odia questions paper had 12 answer wrong. Correction has not been done in the answer key. So it is showing a huge negligence to odia language, which is a great loss to the students who have chosen odia as the second language. Therefore I request you to kindly reconsider the matter and check it. Please support the students for getting justice. Thanking You”, another student wrote on a Twitter post tagging Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan .

Meanwhile, the CBSE has also neglected Odia while announcing the schedule for Class 10 Term-II Board Examination 2022. There is no gap between the two subjects. As per the schedule, the Math exam will be held on May 5 and on the very next day the students have to appear for the Odia exam.

The people of Odisha are miffed that it is happening at a time when the Education Ministry is headed by an Odia Minister.

“I am really shocked that CBSE has neglected Odia despite the fact that Dharmendra Pradhan is the Education Minister. It shows that the Union Minister is not committed towards the promotion of Odia language”, said P Krishna Patro, a parent of CBSE student.

“How can be CBSE so careless and why is Dharmendra Pradhan is acting like a mute spectator, questioned Satya Narayan Das, another parent.

Several other parents have also echoed similar voices against the CBSE and the Union Minister.
