‘Swachh Odisha, Sustha Odisha’ Campaign 100 Per Cent Successful in 9 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has recorded tremendous improvements in the implementation of “Swachh Odisha, Sustha Odisha’ campaign jointly launched by the Central and State Government.

Nine districts of the State have achieved 100 per cent coverage in individual household latrine construction (IHHL) under the campaign.

The districts are Balasore, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Ganjam and Gajapati.

Four other districts – Sundargarh, Rayagada, Balangir and Jagatsinghpur have achieved 90 to 96 per cent target, while 10 districts achieved more than 84 per cent target. The districts include Bargarh, Khordha, Angul, Cuttack, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Puri, Koraput and Jajpur.

This has been revealed at a review meeting jointly chaired by Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi and Secretary of Union Water and Sanitation Ministry Parameswaran Iyer here on Tuesday.

Construction of more than 72 per cent individual household latrines has been completed in other districts in Odisha.

The average IHHL coverage in Odisha has been increased significantly from 12 per cent in the 2012-13 base year to 86 per cent in the current year, the meeting revealed.

During the video conferencing with district collectors, the chief secretary has fixed timeline for each district for 100 percent coverage within August 31, 2019.

Under the programme, each beneficiary family is supported with an incentive of Rs 12,000 for construction of toilet. Around 79 lakh households have been enlisted for this incentive.
