Tigress Beaten to Death by Villagers near Pilibhit Tiger Reserve in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, an adult tigress was beaten to death by villagers near the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh, media reports stated.

The six years old tigress was trapped and brutally assaulted by the angry villagers using sharp-edged weapons. The animal had sustained fractures and multiple injuries on her body and succumbed to the injuries within a few hours.

The big cat was cremated after the autopsy, official sources said.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against 31 identified and 12 unknown people.

The District Magistrate has also ordered a magisterial inquiry to probe the role of forest officials in protecting the life of tigress.

The tigress had reportedly injured nine persons in Mataina village in Pilibhit district. After it attacked a villager on Thursday, the animal was trapped by villagers and brutally assaulted, reports said.

The incident had triggered widespread outrage across the country.

As per reports, the Pilibhit district and Pilibhit Tiger Reserve recorded deaths of as many as 16 tigers and 3 leopards within the jungle and its surroundings since 2012.
