Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has allowed the two popular food delivery platforms – Zomato and Swiggy – for home delivery of liquor across the cities and towns in the State.
According to Excise Commissioner, Zomato has been given permission to deliver liquor in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur and Puri.
Swiggy has been selected for Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur and Rourkela.
The liquor retailers have also been allowed to deliver using their own staff.
No sale will be permitted at the counters to prevent queues.
On/Off shops have been directed to display their numbers clearly. The excise department will list the MRPs along with delivery and extra charges for all counters.
Home delivery of liquor can be received by the retailers over the phone or through SMS, WhatsApp and email.
The service will start from Sunday and will be allowed between 7am and 6pm.
The State Government has imposed a Special Covid Fee by amending the relevant rules and increased the MRPs of all types of foreign liquor & Beer by 50% of the MRPs prevailing last year (2019-20).
The additional revenue so generated will go towards meeting the expenses being incurred by State Government in treatment of Covid-19 patients and other related activities.
Notably, the State Government has allowed home delivery of liquor by the existing ON & OFF shop licensees of IMFL & Beer situated in areas other than containment zones & shopping malls from May 24.
