106-Year-Old Delhi Man Survives Both Spanish Flu and COVID-19 Pandemic

New Delhi: Brining ray of hope among those who are currently battling against coronavirus, a 106-year-old man from Delhi, who lived through the 1918 Spanish Flu, has successfully fought the battle against COVID-19, according to reports.

The Delhi man was a four-year-old kid when the Spanish Flu, a pandemic which had ravaged the world around 102 years ago affecting nearly near one third population of the globe.

The centenarian patient, who survived the Spanish flu pandemic, has beat the COVID-19 pandemic recently. Interestingly, he recovered faster than his son, who was also undergoing treatment at a COVID-19 care facility in the national capital.

The 106-old man was discharged from the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) after recovering from the highly contagious disease, according to reports.

The 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It was caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin and spread worldwide during 1918-1919. About 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide.

While the senior citizens are more vulnerable to corona virus, the recovery of the 106-year-old patient from the disease boosts the confidence of the people, who are currently suffering from COVID-19.
