Puri: Lord Jagannath and His Divine siblings – Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra were decked up in Hati Vesha on the auspicious occasion of Snana Yatra today.
Hati Vesha, also known as Ganesh or Gajanan vesha, is one of the most beautiful veshas of Lord Jagannath.
After the ceremonial bath ritual this morning on the Snana Mandap, the holy Trinity appeared in the form of Hati Vesha.
The tradition of adorning Lord Jagannath in Hati Vesha after the holy bathing ritual is said to be linked with the popular Hindu belief of invoking Lord Ganesh before any religious ceremony.
The Hati Vesha is generally carried out by the Palia Puspalak, Khuntia, Mekap and Daitapatis on the occasion of Deba Snana Purnima. As per the tradition, Raghav Das Mutt and Gopaltirtha Mutt supply the materials for this mesmerizing Vesha of the Trinity.
Earlier this morning, the deities were brought out of the sanctum sanctorum in a Pahandi (procession) by servitors and taken to the Snana Mandap, where 108 pitcher of aromatic water were poured on them.
