Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid his humble tributes to Pandit Nilamani Vidyaratna on his birth anniversary today.
Explaining Nilamani Vidyaratna, one of pioneers for the formation of separate state of Odisha, the Chief Minister remembered his contribution to the field of Odia language and literature, and social reformation.

Pandit Nilamani Vidyaratna was a social reformer, freedom fighter and influential journalist. He had laid the foundation for the struggle of the formation of Odisha and dreamt for Odia language.
Born on 14 December 1867 in village Brajabeharipur near Banki in Cuttack district, Vidyaratna made immense contribution to the field of literature and journalism.
He took over as the editor of the literary magazine, Sambalpur Hitaishini in 1887. He was also the editor of the prestigious Odia weekly, Utkala Dipika.
He breathed his last on 26 July 1923.
