Berhampur Wears Deserted Look amid Weekend Shutdown

Berhampur: The Berhampur city is wearing a deserted look for the second consecutive day today due to the enforcement of weekend shutdown in 11 districts including Ganjam to fight the COVID-19.

The shutdown that began in Saturday morning will be implemented till Monday morning. While all essential services have been allowed to operate, police has made barricades in most parts of the silk city to enforce the shutdown.

Except medicine shops, all other shops in popular markets in Berhampur including Annapurna market, Giri market, Ganesh market, Hanuman bazaar, Sana bazaar, and Bada bazaar, remain closed. People are staying at their homes.

The Berhampur Police arrested three persons for violating the weekend shutdown, sources said.

The weekend shutdown is being implemented in Ganjam, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Balangir districts as a huge number of migrants are returning to these districts from other states.
