BJD Retains Jharsuguda Assembly Seat with Landslide Victory

Jharsuguda: Riding on the popularity of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his people-centric transformative initiatives, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday retained the Jharsuguda Assembly seat with a landslide victory in the crucial by-poll.

BJD candidate Dipali Das has won the election with impressive margin over her rival candidate BJP’s Tankadhar Tripathy. Das has secured 1,07,198 votes to win the election by a margin of 48,721 votes. While the BJP got 58477 votes, Congress could receive only 4496 votes. The poll percent of Biju Janata Dal increased to a record 60.93 percent.

In comparison to her father late Naba Das, Dipali got 8,578 more votes and the vote margin also increased by 3,022 votes.

Counting of votes began at 8 a.m. amid tight security at Jharsuguda Engineering School. A total of 79.21 per cent of 2.21 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the by-poll held on May 10.
