Black Fungus Declared An Epidemic in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has declared Black Fungus as an Epidemic today.
The Health and Family Welfare Department has issued a notification in this regard.

This comes at a time when the Central Government has asked all states to declare Mucormycosis, also known as Black Fungus, as an epidemic due to its severity.

In a letter written to the states, the Center has said that the Black Fungus can be declared as an epidemic by making it a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897. It also makes it mandatory for all government and private health facilities to report all suspected and confirmed cases of black fungus to the health department and subsequently to the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) surveillance system.
