Beijing: The death toll from China’s new coronavirus has risen to 80 on Monday with almost 3,000 confirmed ill, according to media reports.
The number of deaths from the flu-like virus in Hubei province increased from 56 to 76 overnight.
The total number of confirmed cases in China had risen about 30% to 2,744.
Meanwhile, the national new year holiday has been extended by three days to Sunday, in an attempt to contain the spread.
On Monday, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visited Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province and centre of the outbreak, reports stated.
