CM Congratulates Ganjam’s Anadrone Systems on Winning Contract to Supply Expendable Aerial targets to Indian Army, Air Force

Bhubaneswar: In a recognition to the Odisha Government’s ‘Make in Odisha’ initiative, Ganjam-based company Anadrone Systems Private Ltd has won a major contract to supply expendable aerial targets and associated equipment to Indian Army and Indian Air Force.
Congratulating the Gopalpur-based company, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that Anadrone Systems winning the contract exemplifies the strength of ‘Make In Odisha’, an initiative of the State Government for industrial growth in Odisha.

“Congratulate Ganjam-based company- Anadrone Systems on winning contract to supply expendable aerial targets & associated equipment to @adgpi & @IAF_MCC. Previously imported from abroad, will now be manufactured in #Odisha which exemplifies the strength of Make In Odisha”, the Chief Minister tweeted.

The Indian Army has signed the contract, worth Rs 96 crore, with Anadrone Systems for the manoeuvrable expendable aerial targets (MEAT).
The contract to procure 125 of the aerial target systems is the first to be signed by the army under the Make-II category.
The Shikra MEAT system being manufactured by Anadrone Systems is a localised version of the Banshee Jet 40 system that has earlier been imported by the armed forces.

The Shikra target solution was the only system able to demonstrate its ability to meet or exceed all of the required operational and performance requirements of the Indian Army and Anadrone was selected as a single source vendor, the company said.

Anadrone has till now supplied over 600 aerial targets from its factory in partnership with a UK firm. The Shikra is an aerial target designed to be used over land and sea for training of crew on air defence weapon systems. The expendable drone can be manoeuvred at subsonic speeds to simulate an incoming target for air defence weapons.
