Collegium Proposes Mohammed Rafiq as Chief Justice Orissa HC

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court Collegium has proposed that present Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Mohammed Rafiq, be transferred to become the next Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

In his place, the Collegium has also recommended that Justice Biswanath Somadder, who presently sits at the Allahabad High Court, be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

The Orissa High Court has been functioning under the aegis of Acting Chief Justice Sanju Panda since January 5, this year, following the retirement of Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri.

Prior to Chief Justice of Mechanical , he sat as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court, where he had also served as Acting Chief Justice twice.
