Bhubaneswar: In a historic step, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has given Collector’s power to village Sarpanches to combat the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

 

Addressing to the people of Odisha and also those living outside the State through a video message, the Chief Minister said that his government is committed for the safe return of migrant workers stranded in other States in the country after the lockdown is lifted.

The gram panchayats and urban local bodies will be given special power to ensure safety and security of the migrant workers, who will return from other States.

People coming from other States will have to register in their respective gram panchayats and to go for 14 days quarantine.

After the completion of quarantine, the Government will give Rs 2000 as incentive, the CM said.

He said that the State Government will talk to Central Government and other States for the safe return of the stranded Odia workers in other.

The Chief Minister also thanked the people for following the government guidelines and lockdown orders to keep the COVID-19 at bay.
