Cyclone Fani: Zero Casualty in Ganjam, Normalcy Returns to Dist

Berhampur: Ganjam district has recorded zero casualty and is fast returning to normalcy after extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani that hit the Odisha coast on early Friday.

Cyclone Fani, which is said to be one of the biggest and fiercest cyclones that have hit the country in 20 years with wind speeds over 200 kmph, caused massive damages in Odisha uprooting trees, hoardings and ransacking windows panes along the eastern coastline.

The natural disaster has been effectively managed in Ganjam district, which was significantly threatened by Fani.

Taking clues from the past experiences in dealing such situations during Phailin, Hudhud and Titli, the district administration led by Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange has swung into action and evacuated as many as 3 lakes people living along the coast and low-lying areas to safer places.

The administration had made arrangements for all basic necessities like cooked food, water and medicines for the people.

The people were also sensitized through public address systems not to panic in the face of devastating cyclonic storm Fani.

It was a daunting task but past experiences made it easy to achieve zero casualty in the dust, an official said.
