New Delhi: Odisha-born Doordarshan news cameraman Achyutananda Sahu was posthumously awarded the Ramnath Goenka Award for excellence in journalism.
Sahu, who was killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district in October 2018 while covering elections, was conferred with the award in the ‘Reporting from Conflict Zones’ category.
Remembering the martyred cameraman, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted, “The slain journalist’s courage and commitment to his profession will always remain an inspiration for all of us”.

The Ramnath Goenka Awards honouring journalists for outstanding work done in 2018 were presented in New Delhi on Monday. President Ram Nath Kovind was the chief guest at the function.
A native of Balangir, Achyutananda Sahu was martyred on October 30, 2018, in a Maoist attack at Dantewada’s Aranpur along with colleague reporter Dhiraj Kumar and lighting assistant Mormukut Sharma while they were covering the Chhattisgarh elections.
The Ramnath Goenka Awards, instituted in 2006, honour journalists from print, broadcast and digital media, who have shown extraordinary strength of character and integrity while reporting news accurately under dangerous or difficult circumstances.
