Dead Boy Comes Alive; OHRC Asks Police Officer to Pay 5 Lakh Compensation For Wrongfully Arrest

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has ordered the ex-IIC of Paikamal police station who was the investigating officer, to pay 2.5 lakh each to two persons as compensation for ‘wrongfully’ arrested on charges of killing a boy in 2016, when the boy later found alive and returned home after two years.

The NHRC in its order said, the compensation amount of Rs 5 lakh to be recovered from the salary of investigating officer Prakash Kumar Karna, who had arrested the duo.

According to reports, Jitu Dandasena of Piplipali village under Paikmal Police Station (PS) limits in Bargarh district went missing on December 7, 2016. The police arrested two persons namely Halu Gurla and Raghab Naik of Bargarh town on December 24, 2016 on charges of murder and destruction of evidence.

The duo have remained in jail for about a year in connection with the case. The boy however, had returned home in 2018.

The two arrestees had moved the OHRC seeking justice.
