DVOR Facility Now Operational at Jharsuguda Airport

Jharsuguda: In order to ensure smooth functioning of the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, the Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range (DVOR) facility was made operational at the airport from Monday.

The DVOR technology will enable the pilots to have better visibility irrespective of weather conditions at the airport.

Construction work for the DVOR had started in February.  The officials from Airports Authority of India visited the airport last month to inspect the system, informed Sudesh Kumar Chauhan, director of the airport.

Recently, the Veer Surendra Sai Airport, the second largest airport in Odisha, witnessed frequent cancellation of flights due to absence of the DVOR facility.

The DVOR technology will facilitate take-off and landing of aircrafts during inclement weather conditions. It will enhance visibility by 2,300 metres at the airport.
