Bhubaneswar: Former Speaker of Odisha Assembly Sarat Kumar Kar died today while under treatment at a private hospital here, confirmed his family members.
He was 81.
Sarat Kar’s grandson Ansuman Kar wrote on his Twitter post, “My grandfather Shri Sarat Kumar Kar takes his final bow from this mortal life”.
“He fought like a warrior and then…..One of the tallest leaders of Odisha’s Political History, finest orators of all time, a champion in the cause to protect Odisha’s Language, literature. My grandfather Shri Sarat Kumar Kar, takes his final bow from this mortal life”, Ansuman Kar said.

Born on September 5, 1939 in Cuttack district, Kar was elected to the State Assembly three times from his home constituency Mahanga. He was the Speaker of Odisha Assembly from 2000 to 2004.
