Sambalpur: Four more sluice gates of Hirakud Dam were opened on Friday by the authorities to release the excess waters from the reservoir.
As on now, a total of 40 gates of the Hirakud dam were opened to discharge the floodwaters following the incessant rain that caused Mahanadi river water level to rise.
According to reports, the upper catchment of Mahanadi received over 200 mm of rainfall on Thursday.
