Ganjam: Aska Police Arrests Illegal Arms Trader

Berhampur: In a breakthorugh, Aska police today arrested an illegal arms trader, who was allegedly supplying arms and ammunitions to the criminals in Ganjam district.

The accused has been identified as Amir Bhuyan (40) of village Khairaphuti under Gangapur PS of Ganjam district.

“There was concrete information that Amir Kumar Bhuyan of Khairaputi is induldging in illegal arms trade. He was supplying arms and ammunitions to criminals in the district”, the police said.

As per order of Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai, a close watch has been undertaken against Bhuyan.

The illegal arms trader was under surveillance since last six months. In the intervening night of 31.03.2021 / 01.04.2021 at 03.00 AM information was received that Bhuyan was coming in his SUV from Gangapur side to Aska. Then police swung into action and conducted extensive blocking. Finally he was caught at Pakalapalli gate of Aska, the police said.

The cops also recovered recovered two firearms loaded with ammunitions from his possession.

It is learnt that he is involved in arms trade since long. The involvement of others is under scrutiny. Police on duty are to unearth the details of the arms trade, said Prashant Kumar Sahoo, IIC, Aska PS.
