Ganjam: Dacoit Gang Busted, 11 Arrested, Rs 12.59 Lakh Seized

Berhampur: A dacoit gang was busted and 11 persons were arrested in this connection in Dharakote area in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday.

The Dharakote Police busted the robbery gang and held nine members of the gang along with two middle men.

The police also seized cash worth Rs 12,59,500 and recovered eight mobile phones, one mental punch, four MC, one toy pistol, remnants of two burnt mobile phones of the victims from their possessions.

Based on a complaint lodged by victim one B Baya Patra of Kendupali village under Badagada police limits in the district, the police team arrested the robbers.

As per reports, Patra and two of his associates reached Ichchapuram from Visakhapatnam on May 28 after selling goats in Visakhapatnam market of Andhra Pradesh.

They were returning to Ganjam from Ichchapuram in an auto-rickshaw, when eight dacoits came in four motorcycles and obstructed them.

The dacoits assaulted the trio and robbed a cash of Rs 16,80,000 from them, police said.

The victim registered a complaint at Dharakote police station the same day.

Based on the complaint, the cops had initiated an investigation. The preliminary investigation suggested that the helper and the driver of the auto-rickshaw, the prime suspects of the case, had confessed that they were part of the loot conspiracy hatched by the nine others.

The police held 11 accused in connection with the robbery on Tuesday.

Due to timely action of the police, the dacoit gang was busted and cash recovered, said Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai.

The further investigation is on in the matter, he added.
