Chatrapur: In the wake of extension of lockdown to fight coronavirus (COVID-19), the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Ganjam has come up with a unique initiative to help the needy and destitute people.
The initiative ‘MEAL’, which stands for ‘Making Essential Items Available in Lockdown’, aims at softening the effects of lockdown, which has put unwanted hardships on the poor.
“It is an initiative to provide the Needy with Additional Nutritional Security & at the same time provide an opportunity to the NGOs & civil Society, who are eager to help, to pitch in”, said PD DRDA Er Sidhartha Sankar Swain.
Under the initiative, the DRDA has plans to provide dry food packets to the needy people at their doorsteps.
A single food packet consists of rice (5 kg), pulse (1 kg), edible oil (1 litter), soybean (1 kg), salt (1 kg) and spices (200 gram).
The agency has appealed the members of civil society, NGOs and donors to come forward and lend a helping help by donating dry foods for the ‘MEAL’ programme for distribution among the needy.
The interested donors can contact the district IDSP Cell of the agency, an official said.
