Ganjam Para Athlete V Ramesh Rao to Participate in Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Netherlands

Chatrapur: Odisha’s ace Para athlete V Ramesh Rao will participate in the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup to be held at Amsterdam, Netherlands from November 12-18.

Ramesh, who hails from Chatrapur in Ganjam district, got selected for the mega sporting event on the basis of his stellar performance in the recently concluded national wheelchair fencing championships at Chennai, where he clinched a gold medal.

He is one of the members in the nine-member national squad for the upcoming world cup.

The Odia para-sportsperson will also compete in three major competitions in Hungary, Thailand and Japan in the run-up to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

“My ultimate dream is to represent the country at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and win medals”, said Ramesh while adding that he is quite optimistic to clear the qualifiers.

Ramesh, who brought laurels to the State winning medals both at the national and international competitions, will leave for Netherlands on November 11.
