Bhubaneswar: A self-help group from Ganjam district has bagged the award for the best Fish Producer Group of Odisha.
Maa Behera Patra Prathamika Mahila Matsya Unnayana Samabaya Samiti, a SHG from Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam distrct, has received the award from Union Minister Pratap Sarangi.
The award was given on National Fish Farmers’ Day on July 10, reports stated.
Formed in 2011 under the Mission Shakti programme of the Odisha Government, the women SHG is primarily engaged in fish farming. The group has around 64 members and harvests 1,20,000 KG of fish annually.
The SHG sells fish in the local market and also to other districts. The average income of each member is approximately Rs 12,000 per month.
Mission Shakti has now turned into a silent revolution transforming the lives of women, their families and the spaces they inhabit.
Today, Odisha boasts of 70 lakh women orgnanised into 6 lakh SHGs.
