Bhubaneswar: Even as the lockdown clamped to contain the spread of Coronavirus continues, people are seen on roads roaming without valid reasons. The police have started taking strict action against such violators. In its efforts the police have seized more than 840 vehicles in Bhubaneswar and more that a thousand vehicles in Cuttack. There are incidents also of lathi charge on people who are not abiding the norms.
The action of the police has been well appreciated by good Samaritans who say the action is needed to control the unruly people. According to Pramod Kumar Mahapatra of Pokhariput area, a senior citizen, the police action is definitely a good step to stop the movement of people unnecessarily. At a time when the administration is trying to contain the spread of the deadly disease, some people are roaming without reason. They should be punished.”
The Chief Minister has requested all to maintain social distance and any indiscipline will be dealt with strongly. Odisha Police has been reaching out to the public requesting them not to venture out and maintain social distancing.
The authorities have also made arrangements for supply of essential items through door delivery. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police has released a list of home delivery teams who will help citizens get essential items home delivered.
