Kendrapara Holds Padayatra on Same Route Where Gandhiji Travelled

Kendrapara: Celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Odisha’s Kendrapara district today held a padayatra on the route where the Father of Nation had travelled during his stay in the district.

Kendrapara has special memories of Mahatma Gandhi, who spent five days in this coastal district in 1934 spreading the movement against the British.

During his stay, Gandhi had visited several places in Kendrapara. He stayed at a riverside village Dhumat on May 30, 1934. A stone which he used as a sitting stool while taking bath is preserved in the place. He also addressed a public meeting in Barimula village during his Padayatra.

Joined by by Kendrapara Collector Samarth Verma, the district administration held a 6.5 kilometer long padayatra on some of places where Gandhiji had travelled.
Students, teachers and people from different walks of life joined the padayatra to to spread awareness on the philosophy and ideologies of the Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking on the occasion, the district Collector said that a park will be built at Barimula where Gandhiji addressed a public meeting in the village.

Besides, a Gandhi museum will be built in the district to spread the ideologies of Gandhiji, he added.
