Kharavel Bhavan: An Iconic Structure That Will Propel Industrial Growth and Transformation in Governance

Bhubaneswar: On the auspicious occasion of Independence Day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated the new Odisha Secretariat Building ‘Kharavel Bhavan’. Named after the great ruler Kharabela, the iconic building situated in the heart of the Capital city will usher in a new era of transformation and governance.

Kharavel Bhavan has been built keeping in view the growing demands for convergence of various activities so that there will be smooth functioning and coordination between different departments. The new secretariat building is going to lead the industrial development of the state as it would have all the major departments associated with the growth and development of the state.

The thirty thousand square meter building built over an area of 8.3 acres of land will accommodate eleven departments that are presently functioning from the Lok Seva Bhavan.

Important departments that are associated with industrial growth of the state such as the Industries Department and the MSME Departments have been allotted space in the Kharavel Bhavan. While both the departments share the seventh floor of the building, it will help better coordination among them. Likewise, the Energy Department along with the Forest and Environment Department and the Labour and ESI Departments have also been accommodated in the Kharavel Bhavan. As all these departments are interlinked and play a vital role in implementation of various projects, it will be a win-win situation for the government as well as the investors.

Bringing together the important departments under one roof will help investors in speedy clearance and implementation of industrial and other projects. Further, there will not be any need to visit different places and different offices. The initiative will act as an effort of Single Window.

The Kharavel Bhavan is also going to house the offices of the Electronics and IT, Science & Technology, Commerce & Transport Department, Housing and Urban Development, Handloom, Textiles & Handicrafts, Skill Development and Technical Education Departments.

The shifting of the departments to the new building is also an indication of the transformation going on under the 5T initiative of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Kharavel Bhavan is also having a dedicated floor for the Chief Minister’s Chamber and a state of the art Conference Hall where he will look after the progress of the various departments and projects. Naveen will be making weekly review meetings of the Industries Department at the new building.

The building has been aptly named after the second century great ruler Kharavel who is known for his good work for the people and the governance system he put for the welfare of the people. The intention of the government to bring together some of the important departments is definitely going to propel the growth engine of the state and bring in a positive change in project implementation.
