Kota Boat Tragedy: Six Drown, nearly 12 Missing after Boat Capsizes in Chambal river

Jaipur: Six people have died after a boat ferrying around 40 people capsized while crossing the Chambal River in Bundi, Rajasthan on Wednesday. 22 of them have been evacuated safely out of the river but 12 devotees are reported missing. The incident took place near the Dhibri Chambal area under the Khatoli police station limits of Kota. Eyewitnesses say, “The devotees on the boat were crossing from one bank to the other to a temple. Some people had also taken their motorcycles on the boat.

“A boat carrying over 40 devotees to a temple in Indergarh area of Bundi district capsized in Chambal river under Khatoli police station of Kota district at around 8.45 am on Wednesday,” said Sharad Choudhary, Superintendent of Police, Kota Rural.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the accident. “The incident of a boat overturning near the Chambal in Kota is unfortunate. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the accident,” he tweeted. He said that he has spoken with officials in Kota and instructed them for relief to be given to the affected families from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
