Legendary Actor Bijoy Mohanty to Be Cremated with State Honour: CM

Bhubaneswar: The body of legendary actor Bijoy Mohanty will be cremated with state honours, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced today.
The CM expressed deep grief over the passing away of the versatile actor.

In a condolence message, Naveen described late Bijoy Mohanty as a legendary personality who has enriched Odia film industry through his versatile talents. He had a long, illustrious career in Odia film.
Meanwhile senior BJD leader and Rajya MP Dr Sasmit Patra said, “I am devastated with the demise of legendary actor Bijoy Mohanty, whose death has created big loss created a vacuum in Ollywood.”


Spreading over last four decades , the seventy-year-old Bijay Mohanty had a successful career as an actor in Odia film industry.

He had started his career from the 1977 film ‘Chilika Tirey’, he has more than hundred films to his credit. Bijay has acted in a number of hit films including Naga Phasa, Jaga Hatare Pagha, Swapna Sagara, Danda Balunga, Janani and Panjuri Bhitare Sari.

Born in 1950 Mohanty started his acting career during his school days while studying in M.K.C High School. After his graduation from BA, he joined the National School of Drama. He passed successfully from the NSD and started acting in the theatres in Delhi.

Mohanty was married to Odia film actress Tandra Ray and the couple has acted together in a number of Odia films.

Bijay Mohanty is the recipient of the prestigious Jayadev Award – 2014. He won the Odisha State Film Awards six times for Arati (1981), Mamata Mage Mula (1985), Ei Aam Sansara (1986), Aam Ghara Aam Sansara (1991), Bhisma Pratingya (1993) and Bhai Hela Bhagari (1994).
