Low Pressure in BoB: Odisha Govt Urges Collectors to Monitor Situation

Bhubaneswar: In view of the Indian Meteorological Department predicting formation of a low pressure area over Andaman Sea, the Odisha Government today urged the district Collectors to remain alert and closely monitor the situation.

The Special Relief Commissioner asked the Collectors to take necessary action in case of any eventuality.

According to the IMD, a low pressure area is likely to form over south Andaman sea around November 30, 2021. It is likely to become more marked and move westnorthwestwards during subsequent 48 hours.

The possible low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger rain in several parts of Odisha.

The IMD forecasted light to moderate rain or thundershower for one or two places over the districts of south coastal Odisha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada from 8.30 am of December 2 to next morning of December 3.

Under influence of low pressure, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting upto 70 kmph likely over westcentral Bay of Bengal from December 2.

The fishermen, whoever out in the sea, are advised to return to the coast by December 2.

The possible low pressure over Andaman sea may turn into a cyclonic disturbance, the IMD said.
