Bhubaneswar: The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, will be celebrated on October 2. On the occasion, the Odisha Government has planned a series of programmes to inculcate Gandhian values and ideologies among the students.
As part of the celebration, more than 62 lakh students in Odisha will be taught about the relevance of Ahimsa (non-violence), the powerful weapon used by MK Gandhi to free India from the British Rule.
Quiz, essay, debate and painting competitions will be held on the theme relevance of Ahimsa in all schools across the State. Students will be encouraged to participate in the competitions.
The competitions will be held from September 16 to 18 at the school level, September 23 to 24 at the block level and 27 to 28 at state level. The winners will be awarded on October 2, informed School and Mass Education Department.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had proposed the Centre to amend the Indian Constitution to include ‘Ahimsa’ in the preamble as a mark of tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Last year, the Odisha Assembly had also passed a resolution recommending
the State Government to move the Central Government to include the Indian ideal of
non-violence in the preamble of the constitution.
