MP Anubhav Mohanty Serves Legal Notice To OTV For Telecasting Fake News

Bhubaneswar: Kendrapada Lok Sabha Member Anubhav Mohanty has served a legal notice against OTV for telecasting fake news and willfully, deliberately, maliciously defaming him on false grounds and for running vague stories about him. The notice has been served to the television channel and its management.

In a press release, Anubhav said, “Odisha Television Network, headed by Mrs. Jagi Mangat Panda, has been at the forefront of all that is wrong with Media today. The nuisance of fake news is more dangerous than anything in a world that has fast embraced digitalization with open arms. It is one of the many responsibilities of Media to be fair, just and unbiased in its operations. It is the fourth pillar of our democracy, after all. However, it’s regrettable to note that OTV has compromised with the ideals of journalism long ago. Having run regular and unvetted pieces on me since years, OTV has been reduced to a mere propaganda channel only to fulfill B. Panda’s dirty political agendas. It’s high time they were taken to the cleaners the legal way.”

“It’s also interesting to notice that the torchbearers of Free Speech, in this case, look the other way when actual transgressions of Free Speech happen anywhere that’s not Odisha. The saddest aspect of this episode is how the Channel does not shy away from dragging into their dirty game the glorious warriors of COVID-l9 – Doctors. By circulating a clip that was not verified, they have thrown our COVID WARRIORS into the crossfire. However, the action is already being taken for this. For personally targeting me with untrue news pieces, I am taking a separate legal recourse of the Indian Penal Code vis-a-vis Section 499 and 500 IPC to make the Channel answer for their mistakes”, the notice read.
