The application jointly filed by Odisha Small Industries Corporation Limited and Utkala Mistanna Byebasayee Samiti has been accepted.
This comes after a fierce fight between Odisha and West Bengal on the IPR of Rasagola. West Bengal was given the GI tag for Banglar Rasgolla in November 2017.
The move was criticized by people of Odisha as there was historic evidence for exclusivity of Rasagola being a recipe of Odisha and the the same being a centuries old traditional Prasad of Lord Jagannath.
According to the certificate issued by the registrar, the Registration of GI Application No. 612 in respect to ‘Odisha Rasagol’ falls under the Class 30.
