Guwahati: In a gruesome militant attack by Naga militants, a sitting legislator of National People’s Party (NPP) along with 11 persons including his son was killed in Arunachal Pradesh, media reports stated.
Tirong Aboh, an NPP MLA from Khonsa West constituency of the hill state, was killed in attack by suspected National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Issak and Muivah (NSCN-IM) militants in Tirap district when the legislator on his way back from Assam.
Aboh and his family members were travelling from Dibrugarh in Assam to Khonsa, when their vehicle was ambushed by suspected NSCN (IM) militants at Bogapani in Tirap district. One of the cars was reportedly being driven by his son, media reports stated.
Aboh had contested the recently held assembly elections for a second term and received threats from NSCN-IM militants over this. The result of assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh will be declared on May 23.
Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K Sangma has condemned the militant attack.
“The NPP is extremely shocked and saddened by the news of the death of its MLA Shri Tirong Aboh (Arunachal Pradesh) and his family. We condemn the brutal attack and urge (Home Minister) @rajnathsingh and @PMOIndia (Narendra Modi) to take action against those responsible for such attack,” he tweeted.
