Odisha: FIR Registered against US Returnee for Violating Quarantine Protocol Norms

Bhubaneswar: Sending a strong message to not mess with public health priorities during the Coronavirus outbreak, Health and Family Welfare Department has filed a criminal case against the US-returnee for violating COVId-19 protocols.

This is the first such FIR registered in Odisha in connection with a Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“We have registered a criminal case under Puri Ghat PS in Cuttack against an individual for violating home quarantine norms. Those asked to stay in home quarantine must strictly remain in isolation or be prepared for serious consequences,” tweeted Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police.

“It was suspected that a person registered for ‘home quarantine’ after return from US was not following advice and was indulging in risky behaviour. On getting intimation from Health Department, police did necessary verification and found that the person moved in market place. Finding a prima-facie case, Purighat police in Cuttack registered a case under Section 188/269/270/271 IPC on March 22 which is under investigation. He has been shifted to Institutional Quarantine,” said an official release.

To protect his privacy his identity has not been disclosed.
