Odisha Govt Collects Rs 1 Core in Fines under MV Act

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has collected around Rs 1 crore in fines and penalties from traffic violators between September and November under the revised Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019 that came into effect from September 1 across the country, informed Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera to the Assembly on Thursday.

A sum of Rs 46,00,850 has been collected from 5,317 people for driving without driving license, Rs 13,79,700 from 2,111 vehicle owners driving without insurance, Rs 38,16,110 from 1,177 vehicle owners for lack of pollution certificates and Rs 7,38,100 from 490 people for drunken driving, the Minister told the House during the ongoing Winter Session.

Notably, the Odisha Government on September 9 relaxed implementation of the new traffic rules for three months.
