Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government today suspended a doctor for allegedly prescribing wrong injection to a child at a state-run hospital in Balangir district.
The Health and Family Welfare Department took action against Dr. Biju Agrawal of Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH), Patnagarh for allegedly prescribing wrong injection for a one-year-old.
Dr. Agrawal, a Consultant (Pediatric) at the hospital, had allegedly prescribed a wrong injection to the child suffering from diarrhoea, and asked the patient’s family to buy the injection from outside.
Disciplinary action was taken against the doctor during Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Commissioner-Cum-Secretary Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda’s visit to the hospital.
As per sources, Dr Agarwal also violated Niramaya scheme, under which free medicines should be provided to patients in all government hospitals, by prescribing medicines not available in the Niramaya store.
“With the disciplinary proceeding against Dr Agrawal contemplated, he has been placed under suspension. During the period of his suspension, Headquarters of Dr Agrawal shall be District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Bolangir,” an order issued by the H&FW department said.
“Dr Agrawal shall not leave the Headquarters without obtaining the prior permission of the competent authority. Besides, he shall be entitled to the payment of subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule-90 of the Odisha Service Code” it added.
