Odisha Govt Targets to Build 2000 Check Dams in 2019-20

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has set the target to build 2000 check dams in 2019-20 financial year, informed Water Resources (WR) Minister Raghunandan Das to the Assembly on Thursday.

The Minister said that a total of Rs 333.84 crore has been allotted for this, out of which Rs 302.23 crore has already been spent by February end.

In reply to a question in Assembly, the WR Minister said that a total of 14,588 check dams have been constructed in Odisha in last 10 years (2010-2019) irrigating 1,47,000 hectares of land in the State.

The State Government had targeted to construct 1,087 check dams in 2018-19. While work of 367 check dams has been completed, 720 are under-construction, the Minister added.
