Odisha Govt to Develop 101 Schools into Centers of Excellence

Schools to Have English Medium Section from Class I

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to impart high quality education to the students, the Odisha Government has decided to develop as many as 101 schools into Centres of Excellence in 30 districts soon. 

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has made this big announced here on Wednesday.

As per plans, the schools will have English Medium section from Class First. The State Government will provide Rs 25 lakh each to meet soft infrastructure requirements of these schools, a release issued by the CMO stated.

The Naveen Patnaik-led government has been giving utmost priority to ensure quality education at the state-run schools across the State. It has introduced a slew of innovative measures to create interest among the students and their parents towards the government schools, the release said.

The State Government has implemented several initiatives to strengthen school management system, improve the standard of teaching and learning, and personality development of students.

It has been decided that the schools having less than 20 students will be merged with nearby government schools. The primary, upper primary and high schools will be merged with schools situated within the radius of 1km, 2km and 3km respectively in order to tackle the problem of shortage of teachers and other educational issues. The students will be provided Escort Allowance under the RTE Act to cover their travel expenses.

The government has also decided to bring the School and Mass Education Department under the Mo Sarkar initiative to transform the education scenario in the State. The phone numbers of the parents will be digitized.

Under the 5-T initiative, the government has instructed the concerned officials to make sure that the students can get all their certificates online, sources said.
