Odisha Police Gun Down Four Maoists in Fierce Encounter in Kandhamal

Phulbani: In a major success, security forces in Odisha have gunned down as many as four Maoists in a fierce encounter at Sirla forest in Tumudibandha in Kandhamal district early this morning, informed SP Prateek Singh today.

The deceased Maoists have been identified as cadres of out lawed BGN Division of Maoist .

Joint team of  DVD and SOG jawans swung into the action following a tip-off regarding a Maoist camp at the forest. An fierce exchange of fire broke out between the two sides during the raid by the security forces.

Giving detail about the encounter, Odisha police  in its twitter handle stated, “There was an exchange of fire between maoists and SOG, DVF at Tumudibandha, Kandhamal. Security forces were fired upon & they fired back in self defence. There are four casualties on Maoists side. Some of them are injured. Combing operations are on in the area. SP is at the spot.”

Meanwhile, security forces have also recovered huge haul of arms and ammunition from the spot.

The Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy has congratulated the security forces for the major success. In his twitter handle, he wrote “Congrats to Officers & Jawans of Odisha Police on successful ops in Kandhamal.Their brave action is much appreciated .Death of 4 Maoist confirmed . This strengthens our resolve to free our state from extremism and spur all round development in the state.”

Combing operation in the area has been intensified following the encounter
