Panchayat Polls: SEC Writes DGP Odisha To Enforce Covid-19 Guidelines Strictly

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Election Commission has written a letter to DGP Odisha to ensure enforcement of the Covid-19 guidelines as prescribed by the Commission during the nominations filing by the candidates for the three-tier Panchayat polls.

The letter says that “Now the Nomination Process is going on from 17th to 21st January, 2022. It is being seen that people are gathering in large numbers for filing of nominations and are holding public meetings which contravenes the Guidelines. A large number of candidates are expected to file nominations on the last day tomorrow, i.e., 21st January, 2022.

The Commission hereby directs that necessary instructions shall be issued to all S.Ps, including Covid Observers, to ensure that large gatherings do not take place for filing nominations and holding meetings in public places.”
