Puri: In an incident that can be termed as shameful and bizarre, a newborn premature girl child was left in the bathroom of Puri Hospital today allegedly by her mother. The newborn, weighing just under a kilogram, is said to be premature and is not in a stable condition.
The incident came to light today at the fourth floor bathroom of the Puri District Hospital. The child has been rescued by the child line and admitted to the hospital’s SNCU. The doctors are keeping an eye on the health condition of the child and if required, she will be shifted to Cuttack for further treatment.
Hospital authorities are investigating the incident and ascertaining how the child was taken to the bathroom and checking the CCTV visuals for clues.
The identity of the mother has not been disclosed by the hospital authorities. The Kumbharapada Police station has been informed about the incident.
