Priyanka Gandhi Meets Unnao Rape Victim’s Family, Slams Yogi Govt for Recurrent Crimes against Women

Lucknow: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today met family members of the Unnao rape victim, who died after being set ablaze, and came down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh government alleging that it is patronizing criminals that led to recurrent crimes against women in the State.

Talking to the media after meeting the deceased woman’s family members at their house here, the Congress leader alleged that the BJP-led government had created such circumstances that there was no fear in the minds of criminals in the State.

She said, “They (the BJP government) are saying that there is no place for criminals in UP. But the way in which anarchy has spread and crime against women is taking place in the state, I wonder if in the Uttar Pradesh made by them there is any place for women”.

Priyanka Gandhi urged the government and the administration to take seriously the issue of violence against women.

Notably, the 23-year-old woman was set ablaze on Thursday by five people, including two who are accused of raping her.

She had suffered 90 per cent burns and was airlifted from Lucknow to the Delhi-based hospital where she died on Friday night.
