Puri Custodial Death: Odisha Govt Pays Rs 5 Lakh as Interim Compensation

Puri: The Odisha Government has paid Rs 5 lakh as interim compensation to parents of the deceased inn the Puri custodial death case. This was also intimated to the High Court by the Government.

The next hearing of the case has been fixed on December 14.
Notably, K Ramesh, a 33-year-old, a resident of Lokanath Road area in Puri town was picked up by police over some old cases on November 19, 2020, and he allegedly died in the police custody.

His family members alleged that his body was cremated without being handed over to them and hence police was blamed.

A PIL was filed in the Orissa High Court seeking a court-monitored probe and demanded stringent action against the errant police officials and compensation for the deceased’s family.
