Rain Fury: Hirakud Dam Opens 18 Sluice Gates to Discharge Floodwater
Sambalpur: With the incessant rains in the upper catchment areas of River Mahanadi and western Odisha, Hirakud Dam authorities have opened up four more sluice gates of Asia’s largest earthen reservoir to release floodwater.
With this, floodwater discharged through 18 gates currently.
While water inflow into the reservoirs is of 5,24,281 cusecs per second the combined outflow through the sluice gates, power channel and other different canals stands at 2,48,119 cusecs per second.
The water level in the reservoir is at 621.56 feet while the maximum water storage capacity is 630 feet.
