Raurkela: Odisha CM Likely to Lay Foundation for New Hockey Stadium in Feb

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to lay foundation stone for the largest hockey stadium in the country in Rourkela next month, sources said.

Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohaptra, Secy to CM (5T) VK Pandian and Works Secretary Dr. Krishan Kumar and Sports and Youth Services Department Director Vineel Krishna visited Rourkela on Jan 19 to review the preparations.

The construction of the stadium is likely to be completed by 2022.
Setting the ball rolling for the prestigious FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup India 2023, Naveen Patnaik on December last year announced a new world class Hockey stadium in Rourkela city which would be the biggest stadium for Hockey in India with a sitting capacity of 20,000.

The stadium along with the allied facilities will be developed as a benchmark for other Hockey stadiums around the world.

The prestigious Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2023 will be organized both in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.

Sundargarh district is the powerhouse of Hockey Talent. Many great hockey players from the district have represented the country at the international level.

The Indian team led by players like Dilip Tirkey and Sunita Lakra have brought laurels for the country. Popularity of Hockey can be seen across the district.
