Setback to BJP Before Bijepur By-poll, Ashok Panigrahy Quits

Bhubaneswar:  In a major setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of crucial Bijepur by-election, senior leader Ashok Panigrahi quit the party on Saturday.

As per reports, Panigrahi resigned from the primary membership of the saffron party alleging negligence by the party towards him.

He has reportedly sent his resignation letter to state BJP president.

“I tendered my resignation from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party w.e.f 12.10.2019 due to negligence of party towards me, which may please be accepted”, the letter reads.

The by-poll to Bijepur Assembly constituency will be held on October 21. The counting of votes will be held on October 24.

Notably, Panigrahi  lost the Bijepur by-poll last year to Biju Janata Dal candidate Rita Sahu.
