Bhubaneswar: As Odisha fights to keep Coronavirus at bay, the shutdown and lockdown imposed in the state has been tremendously successful thanks to its law abiding citizens and a proactive government machinery. The total shutdown imposed by the administration in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw people stay indoors and the streets looked deserted. Along with the twin cities, Bhadrak, some places of Jajpur and Puri were also shutdown to contain the spread of the deadly virus. In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the shutdown will be implemented till 8 pm today if no further decisions are taken.
More or less the shutdown and lockdown in the state has been a great success as most of the people cooperated with the government and stayed inside their homes to keep Corona away. As the police personnel worked tirelessly to implement the restrictions on movement of people, the administration took care that essential items were available to all.
While the containment zones were sanitized in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Bhadrak and Jajpur using firefighting equipment, other areas are being strictly implemented the lockdown orders.
Fearing the potential of the deadly virus to spread quickly, the Ganjam district has taken a decision to impose 19 hour shutdown in the whole district from 12 noon to 7 am. People will be allowed to venture out by walking only to purchase essential items during 7 am to 12 noon. The administration has made provisions for door delivery of essential items and doctors have been designated to provide tele-consultations.
The district administration in Kalahandi has imposed shutdown in the Golamunda Block to contain the spread of the deadly disease. A 29 year old person with travel history to Bahrain has been found to be Corona positive.
While the violators of shutdown are being handled strongly, most of the people have abided by the restrictions. Meanwhile DGP Abhay has visited Bhadrak District and took stock of the situation arising due to the imposition of shutdown. He had a detailed discussion with the IG Eastern Region and SP Bhadrak.
